ABUELITOS SENIOR CENTER

FOOD, LOVE, GOD'S WORD, ART...

IS PROVIDED TO OUR ABUELITOS...

The center provides food, ministers love to some 60 "Abuelitos",  gives them the opportunity to grow in the knowledge of God's Word, and to feel useful through arts and crafts projects, and have fun playing and simply gathering together.

HOW IT STARTED?

The Seniors' in many communities are the called the "Forgotten", forced to beg for food, left locked in their houses, take care of family... and they have been left out of the community.
Pastors' Peter and Martita from Linaje Escogido opened the “Abuelitos” Senior Center in November 2012 to respond to the poverty and neglect that affect many seniors in our community.
Many of the seniors that attend the center come from very impoverished families, but they are also very lonely, having been forgotten by those same families.

The Senior Center is coordinated by Keila Velasquez, who abounds in love and creativity as she leads arts and crafts projects, games, dancing, or simply talking over coffee,
as well as sharing Bible stories and songs. A delicious and nutritious hot lunch is also served two days a week.

DIFFERENT WAYS WE SUPPORT OUR "ABUELITOS"

"MEALS ON WHEELS"

We have about 20 "abuelitos" that can't assist physically the center due to medical condition or long distance.

"Meals on Wheels" delivers lunches directly to their homes in “Moto-taxis.”

At this time, meals are being delivered ever Tuesday and Friday, hoping to soon deliver meals every day.

MEDICAL ATTENTION

Medical attention at the “Samuel” Medical Center is free of charge for the seniors that are part of the feeding center as well as other low-income seniors.

Amazing Comfort Ministries prepares medical brigades during which doctors and nurses visit La Villa and surrounding communities and provide free medical attention, with a special focus on seniors and children.

SENIOR CENTER ACTIVITIES

Besides meals, our senior STAFF prepares monthly activities for the seniors.
The favorite activities by the "abuelitos" are: Crafts, Music, Dancing, Playing bingo, Parties with piñatas, and they love sharing their stories, and for us the "gringos" visiting their homes in our Mission trips.
These activities are never missed
